Behind the Scenes
This was a tough part in the comic for me to do, mostly just because I couldn’t decide the best way to reveal the attack and demise of the ODSTs.
Here’s a few in-progress shots of an abandoned version of the above page…
And a deleted page (incorporating what I had already painted in the last image), which reveals how I had decided to slowly show the entire demise of the ODSTs over a few pages.
In the end though, I felt that it would be better to shock the audience more with a two-page spread and not drag out the deaths of the ODSTs, and instead focus on Jun’s perspective of their deaths.

About to be stabbed in my opinion…. but it’s pretty darn close. I would assume his helmet was starting to melt at this point.

Hah, cool! I sometimes try to use my own art for wallpapers too…. but I usually get annoyed since I see things only I know are ‘wrong’ or ‘off’ from how I wanted.

Really diggin the detailed camo on Grim’s legs, never noticed any camouflage on any of the game’s characters and it always slightly bothered me so kuddos
Grim? You mean MacLean? I don’t think grim’s on the page, is he? Isn’t he the one with the white stripe on his helmet but without the camera thing attachment (that’s Mulheran). I might be wrong though, i was just looking at the adjunct
Yep, I think he means MacLean’s legs. But thanks Makro P0L0, I thought some more camouflage would be a nice addition. I think Halo has stayed away from camo to preserve a bit more of its bright and futuristic tones that it often has in its art direction, but I think if used well, camo can look pretty cool.
He actually has a sword through his belly! OMG! I can predict the future! O.o

If you count these two (since it’s a spread) plus the divider pages and title pages that were added in the Cover section, it’s actually 6 pages…
But there’s actually 10 more pages after this that are already complete. But I’m not posting them until all of the last 20 are finished.

There is but ONE thing that I think would make this page cooler… If the ODST in the lower right corner had his visor tint off and you could see a look of horror on his face… That would make this page just that 20% cooler… *Hint Hint*

So….. whats your rough estimate on when the last of the comic book comes out…. (once again, not being annoying simply wondering so i dont have to check this site everyday…..literally….everyday.)
I have more than half of the remaining pages done. There’s just a fistful of a Fistful of Arrows left, heh. I’m not going to be giving anyone any more timelines because honestly I’m obsessed with making this ending perfect in my eyes. In addition, life likes to get in the way lately for hobbies like this.

I just found out about this series, and after reading straight through from the beginning, I have to say, I’m really impressed. Good art and a compelling plot. Especially like your fleshing out of Nobel team’s backstory. This stuff is good enough to be sold. Can’t wait to see how it ends!

Any one else surprised by what we already knew?
The concept of Grim is starting to make me think of the Carmine family in the Gears of War series: joining your brothers in war,but most likely just getting killed in a short time. Or, maybe he’ll be like Clayton Carmine. While the subject is still Gears, the song “Mad World” would go well with this scene. And basically the entire Covenant War. And I’m babbling again.
Babbling is just a sign that your brain is faster than your mouth. That’s a good thing.
By the way, is Jun acting like RvB’s Church?
Hey looking at ur deviant account Levi why didn’t you finish the story on the spartans grabbing the nukes! Was it a failed project or something? Nearly had a heart attack when I went from tension to disappointment as I realized there no more! ;o
That was one of the first comics I had done, and was just basically a test to see how me and the writer UNSC Trooper collaborated. It’s an adaptation of the beginning of the novel, Ghosts of Onyx, so if you’re interested in seeing what happens, I’d check that out.
The next comic I made on there was A Sangheili’s War, which IS a complete story (and written by me).
I think the segment of music from Halo Reach the pillar of autumn were Emile is killed fits this scene perfectly. Your comic doesn’t let up at all, just when we think we see what’s next, you pull off another twist. You Leviathan are a true artist. I don’t care what others say, you are a fantastic writer and artist. Also your work is canon, regardless of who says it isn’t. It is definitely part of the halo universe.
Also, been meaning to ask, were you thinking of doing a Portal comic? I could just see you writing/drawing funny one-liners with the turrets and Glados, also Wheatley. Possibly set before Portal 2 (or as a spoof), just curious if you thought about doing.
dude this is the best comic ive ever read and ive read some pretty cool comics that fact that the creator has got and made a story into the halo univers is just unbeliveable i wish the best of luck to you in any other comics you make and that the people running e34 studios or whoever is in charge of halo now lets you publish em!

If these Elites survive long enough, which is not likely with Jun there (since this comic does justice to noble team and does not portray four out of six of them as bumbling idiots), they might feel sorry for the ODSTs in the future.
